Notes for Janet CROCKET

General Note
Janet did not marry.

Her sister Margaret appears in the 1841 census for Caerlaverock as head of house, of independent means along with her sisters Jane, 55, and Janet, 50. Margaret is 65. All are unmarried. They are living in the family home of Castlewood Cottage, a 7-roomed house.

The 1861 census shows Janet still living at Castlewood Cottage, a 7-roomed house at Caerlaverock, with her sister Jane, aged 74, and their niece Agnes, then 28 and also unmarried. The house belonged to Jane.

By 1877/8, the valuation rolls show only Miss Janet Crocket as owner and occupier. A year later, the proprietor is Lord Herries, who owned a lot of other property ih Caerlaverock. The occupant was Mrs Crocket, presumably Jessie McKill.
