There is an entry in the Hobart Gazette, Tuesday February 8th, (year unknown), p. 445, which
states that John W. Brown (no. 51) was owner of a property at Burnett St, Beaconsfield, comprising
1 acre worth 100 pounds capital value. The annual value was unreadable. When his son George Westwood was born, John's occupation was given as 'Licensed Victualler'. The informant was Richard Webb. His marriage certificate, gives him as 'above age', and Mary too. He was a 'carpenter'. The clergyman was J Garrett. They were married at Richmond Hill, Launceseton, according to the rites and ceremonies of the Church of Scotland. Witnesses were James Bird and Geo. Cummins. His baptism registration, St John Launceston, dated 21st August, says his parents were John and Jennet. John senior was a baker. The Chaplain was W B Browne. He was baptised on the same day as his brother George Hooper Brown, born 7 November 1828. |
