THE 'CATHARINE' BIBLE
These three photographs show the family information contained in a second Bible still held within the Lecroissette family of London.
Whereas the Benfleet Bible was, and remains, an item that belongs to the wider family and has been passed down the generations, this other, smaller Bible is a more personal item. It records the marriage on 16 September 1798 of John Isaac 'Descroissette' as he called himself at this point (later simply 'Cross' or Lecroisett, as he wished in his will) and Catharine Wohlmann.
The baptisms of their children are all recorded here. The details tie in precisely with those in the Benfleet Bible, suggesting that when John Isaac inherited the Benfleet Bible he copied the details into it from here. Or maybe Catharine did.
