Her age as given in the 1861 census suggests a year of birth more like 1796 than 1797, the
census being taken early in the year. Someone has done research but failed to come up with good enough evidence for this site. Her baptism is offered on the IGI online, an LDS member's offering, so to be checked againt Parish Records. Anyone who has done this, please get in touch. Ann was still alive in the 1871 census, but gone by the 1881. In 1871, she said she was 73, pointing to a year of birth of 1797. It seems likely Ann was born late in 1796, or perhaps early in 1797. Deaths Mar 1875 WOODRUFF Ann 77 Barnsley 9c 137. This suggests 1797 but as this was not based on her own evidence, while the census evidence was presumably checked with her, this at least points to these two years. Both census records say she was born in Barnsley. This could cover Ecclesfield, and usually did. As for her ancestry, the Greenwoods seemed to come from Royston, for which some records have been transcribed. However, extreme caution need to be exercised over the ancestral line beyond this point, as the author has seen no proof in the form of parish records or certificates, but is taking the ancestry from family sources.
