Notes for Hilda Eunice Mildred ANDREWS

General Note
Eunice was born in Leyton, in Essex, in the registration district of Stratford. Her first name was Hilda, however. Her registration details:

Births Jun 1889 Andrews Hilda Eunice M W. Ham 4a 228

Her birth certificate shows that the family were living at Wards Villa, Hainault Road, Leytonstone. Her mother Annie Amelia was the infomant, her maiden name being given as Wohlmann, and the date of registration 20th May 1889. Her father was described as a 'Letter Press Printer Master'. The copy sent to the author of this note was made 17th January 1949, presumably for Eunice to take abroad with her.

At the 1901 census, Eunice was living in South Shoebury, Essex. Her name is shown without the initial E, ie as Unice. Eunice was a late-born child, very pretty and sociable. She visited the Daniel family in Norwich after she was widowed and made a great impression on them as teenagers. She was sailing the world on cruise liners, enjoying her freedom.

Eunice's date of marriage has been given variously as 12th or 24th February 1912, however her marriage certificate shows it to be 24th February. She was 22, a spinster of 23 Church Road, Southend. Charles was 26, a bachelor motor engineer of 4 Lancaster Gardens. His father was Henry John Gillard, deceased architect, and Eunice's father was Charles Andrews, printer. The marriage took place after Banns and Eunice was married by Archibald Nicol. The witnesses were Charles G. Andrews and R. C. Gillard, wheter Charles's brother or mother is not known as at February 2004.
