Notes for William Charles DANIEL

General Note
William's birth was registered in 1898 in Paddington, volume 1a, p. 5. The family were living at Clarendon Garden, Maidavale, registration district Paddington, volume 1a, page 51.

He appears in the English 1901 census with his parents and sister at 1 Nemorne (should read Nemoure) Road, Acton. He is 2 years old, and listed as suffering from an infirmity: a 'lost left eye'. This does not appear to have prevented him serving in the First World War, as a family photograph shows him in uniform, presumably just as he was about to leave. His mother's facial expression is one of abject misery.

He was sent to a choir school while his parents were back and forth between Penang and Essex.

From the Parish Administrator, All Saints on 25th April 2007:

We hold a " Register of Boys Approved and Admitted to Sing as Choristers in the Church of All Saints, S Marylebone" in which your uncle William Charles Daniel is listed. The entry reads as follows:-

He died in Queensland, Australia after a bad fall. He had been suffering cancer of the prostate and sciatica. He hadn't seen any of his sisters or mother for 8 years, having last visited Sydney to see Annie Amelia, his mother, on her 80th birthday.

He was known in the family as 'Billy'. He was an Optometrist. Family sources say he was very musical, playing the piano and composing. A Lay Preacher in the church of England.
