FreeBMD gives his birth registration as September quarter 1864. The 1881 census finds Andrew at home with George James and his sister Harriet (Temperance) and her husband (Robert Stevenonson) and child, also with Annie Amelia senior. They are all in Leyton. They were living in Leyton at 61 St George's Road. As in 1901, Andrew worked as a railway clerk. In the 1901 census, the family's address was 73 Grange Park Road, Leyton (St Mary's). The couple have three daughters and a son at this stage. Andrew Swift Andrews was said, by the Andrews family, to have left London and taken up the position as Station Master at Eye, Suffolk. His large family was said to have been in the Norwich area. This might have been a confusion with the Daniel family, descendants of Andrew's niece Annie Amelia Andrews. The station at Eye was on a branch line from Mellis, off the main London-Norwich line. It is possible Andrew was in charge of Diss, as there are stories of him donning frock coat and hat to greet in 'the nobs' from London, unlikely to dismount at either Mellis or Eye.
