Ann Kearsing New York Ward 17 District 9, New York, NY, 52, 1817, England, White, Female. The problem here is the age given is 7 years out. There are frequent references in the USA but in no other English-speaking countries, to people with this name, including this 1925 press report: CELEBRATING THEIR FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY Mr. And Mrs. George J. Waugh of this City, Holding Golden Wedding BOTH WERE BORN IN CITY OF HAMILTON Mr. Waugh Has Been Fifty-one Years in Business - Started in Same Block Mr. And Mrs. George J. Waugh, of this city, are to-day celebrating their golden wedding, it being the 50th anniversary of their wedding, which took place in Hamilton, half a century ago to-day. Mr. Waugh is the oldest merchant in Stratford, having been in business here for fifty-one years. He has also been in the same block from the first. He is 74 years of age. Mr. and Mrs. Waugh were married in Hamilton, by the Rev. Dr. Ormiston, a Presbyterian minister. Dr. Thompson, formerly of Stratford, was the best man and the late Miss Lila Morgan, of St. Thomas, was the bridesmaid. Mr. Waugh was born in Hamilton, as also was his wife, and attended the New York College of Pharmacy. He then came to Stratford and started business here. Margin note: John McElroy died & death registered in parish records, May 26, 1906. Marguerite McGee died 17 May 1909. There is a copy of the baptism entry for Ann Elizabeth held in the Portland Archives at the University of Nottingham, ref. PI E12/6/21/3/10/1 The baptism entry referred to was at the 'Parish of St. Marylebone in the County of Middlesex'. The copy of the extract is a small printed square of paper, produced plainly in a ready-made booklet printed by John Booth, Printer, Duke Street, Portland Place. Most of it is in a standard printed format with spaces to complete with individual details. BAPTISMS ' in the Year of our Lord 1771 December 1 Ann Lacroifsette of John & Ann born 11th Ult.' It says that the extract was made 'Twenty-sixth Day of February' in 1827. Ann Elizabeth married and went to the USA. At the time these copies of parish entries were required, Ann would have been in her 50s, and her family long complete. A copy of her marriage entry is also held in the Portland Archives PI E12/6/21/3/10/4. It is a printed sheet with the spaces filled in with details. The printer was O. Y. Thistleton, Undertaker and Parish Clerk, 14, Somers Place East, New Road. The note is on page 115 and the printed date, 182-- was struck through to make 'One Thousand seven Hundred and Ninety-Six.' Thomas Kearsing, Bachelor of this Parish and Ann Elizabeth De la Croisette of the Parish of Saint Mary le Bone - Spinster were married in this Church by Banns this Fourth Day of July in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Six By me B. Stickall. Thomas signed himself as Thomas Kearsing and Ann as Ann De la croisfette. The witnesses were John De La croissette and Lydia ?Hedring (probably Kearsing). The extract was made on the 24th Day of July 1827, no. 454, I Mackenbury, Curate. Marriages solemnized in the Parish of Saint Pancras, in the County of Middlsex, in the Year One Thousand seven Hundred and Ninety-Six. There were various transactions over the sale of land these descendants of Isaac Taylor owned in Nottinghamshire where their mother Ann came from. Here is an extract from the Portland papers, held at the University of Nottingham (http://mss.library.nottingham.ac.uk/cats/port_londonple_nottsales8.html) Copy case to counsel, and opinion, relating to a conveyance of land at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, from the De La Croissette family to the 4th Duke of Portland; 9 Apr. 1827 (5 ff, paper) Case to counsel relating to a conveyance of land at Ravensdale in the parish of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, from John I. De La Croissette and others to the Duke of Portland, dated 8-9 Feb. 1827 [see Pl E12/6/21/3/6/1-2]. States that the deeds of lease and release, and acknowledgments of a fine were executed by John I. De La Croissette and Catherine his wife, and by Charles De La Croissette and Mary his wife; and that the papers relating to the fine were sent to New York on 16 Jan. to be acknowledged by the other vendors Thomas Kearsing and Ann Elizabeth his wife and have not yet been returned. States that John I. De La Croissette died on 16 Mar., leaving a will appointing his wife as sole executor and residuary legatee. The deeds are about to be sent to America to be executed, but in view of the death of Mr De La Croissette a question has arisen as to the validity of the fine. Instructs counsel to advise on the legal situation relating to the fine (especially if it should be found that Mr and Mrs Kearsing signed documents after the death of Mr De La Croissette) and on whether Mr De La Croissette's widow should release her dower.
