General Note
Entry in Huguenot Publications Vol. XXV, page 5, showing the register of the Church of Le Carre and Berwick Street.Entry says: SABATIER. 1st Mars. Jean, f. de David, Sr. de la Croisette, membre de cet. eg., et de Margueritte Doull, Damelle de la Croisette..... dans la maison.

His marriage to Catharine: record for French Protestant Chapel in St John Street, Spitalfields at the National Archives. Married 5th October 1716, born in London, son of deceased David Sabatier and Marguerite Doul. Both groom and bride signed their names.

John's son Charles wrote about his death in the 'Memorandums' in the Benfleet, Essex, family Bible: February 6, 1766. Died my Father. Mr John La Croissette, Aged 69 years. This is a perfect fit for a baptism in 1697.

Ethel Le Croissette's handwritten notes refer to John La Croissette and ? Catherine, about 1722. Their marriage took place in 1716. Catharine signed herself without the 'h' in Thabary.

There were many families in France who carried the de Croisettes name, among them Francois Blondel, the architect, seigneur des Croisettes et de Gallardon. He was born in Paris in 1617 and died in 1686. He travelled through Europe and the Orient and on his return to Paris constructed the Arc de Triomphe at Saint Denis. He was admitted to the Académie d' Architecture in 1671. From the Internet:

The reason for believing that the de Croissettes family came from Picardy is that the coat of arms and crest handed down the family, and fortunately copied before it was destroyed (or stolen), are decorated with the motif 'of Picardie'. This chimes with references in the Huguenot records in London to members of the family having their origins in Picardy.

Concerning the origin of the name, perhaps a reference to the coat of arms that has been passed down the family, along with a crest that came down with the family Bible, the following is from http://www02.so-net.ne.jp/~saitou/cgi-bin/more.cgi?input=Cross: Crosslet, (fr. croissette or petit croix): two or more crosses are sometimes borne in the same coat, and are then termed crosslets. If only two or three are borne they may be termed crosses or crosslets. If more, they must be termed crosslets. They are drawn couped, but it is not necessary to mention that circumstance, because they could not be otherwise.

William de SARREN, d'azur a trois crois d'or--Roll, temp. HEN. III. Or, three crosses gules--DE LA MAYNE.Distinct, however, from the crosslet is the cross crosslet, or, as it is sometimes, though rarely, termed a cross crossed(fr. croix croisee). By rights, however, a cross crossed is equivalent to a cross crosslet fixed, that is, the arms extend to the extremities of the escutcheon. The Cross crosslet is often borne fitched; it may also have each extremity formed like those of the cross pattee, and it is then called a Cross crosslet pattee. But further, a Cross crosslet may be itself crossed(fr. recroissetee), though there have been differences of opinion as to its character. The true signification of this term seems to be a cross composed of four cross crosslets, but Gerard Leigh represents it as shewn in the margin. Or, a cross crosslet fitchy azure--Gilbert IRONSIDE (Bp. of Bristol, 1689). Argent, a cross crosslet pattee sable--WYKERSLEY. Gules, a cross crosslet argent--CHRISTIAN, Ireland. Or, a cross crosslet azure--CARROLL, Ireland. Argent, a cross crosslet azure--BRITTON. Gules, a cross crosslet crossed next the centre on the upper and lower limbs or--CHADERTON, Harl. MS. 1465. Argent, a cross crosslet crossed(or, as Leigh expresses it, double-crossed) pattee[at all the extremities] sable--BARROW.
