Her surname might have been written also as Dole, and Dowl, the latter as in the marriage record.
The Dole family in France were, like the de Croisettes, notable lawyers in the Bailiwick of
Senlis. Jean Dole, a lawyer operating in 1525-1554, married one of Jacques de Croisettes' daughters.
They had a son, at least, named Jacques, also a lawyer, who operated between 1564 and 1569
in the bailiwick. His wife was Jeanne Martine. It is possible Margeurite came from the lineage,
and so, rightly, claimed de Croisettes ancestry. The de Croisettes in the Senlis bailiwick
had great wealth and power, so were a name to be reckoned with. There was, apparently, a Huguenot clergyman practising in London, name of Doulle. She was probably his daughter. The will of a Margeurite Sabatier is online at the National Archives. She left everything, almost, to the Hugueno Church of Savoy for distribution to the poor. This could have been a descendant. She mentions relatives, cousins, etc, so some untangling to do. |
