Notes for Elizabeth FISHER

General Note
Elizabeth, according to the 1881 census was a 'farmer of 23 acres', born in Semley, aged 75. She is recorded in the 1881 census at Haystone, Donhead St Mary, which is near Shaftesbury, in Dorset. Donhead St Mary is 6 miles SE of Hindon. Grid ST906244. Post code SP7 9DQ. Population 1520 in 1831, 868 in 1951.

This was her household in 1881:

Elizabeth STREET Head W Female 75 Semley, Wiltshire, England Farmer 23 Acres Of Land

Elizabeth STREET Daur U Female 32 Donhead St Mary, Wiltshire, England

Thomas STREET Son U Male 30 Donhead St Mary, Wiltshire, England

Edward FRAMPTON Grandson, Male 8 Islington, Middlesex, England Scholar

Charles FRAMPTON Grandson, Male 7 Islington, Middlesex, England Scholar

Gertrude FRAMPTON Grand Daur Female 6 Islington, Middlesex, England Scholar

Dwelling Haystone, Census Place Donhead St Mary, Wiltshire, England.

Calculating back from Elizabeth's age of 75, this would make her born around 1805 or 1806. If she was born in Semley, she might have been baptised in Donhead St. Mary as the church in Semley, rebuilt by the Victorians, might not have been in a good state of repair.

Elizabeth died in Alderbury registration district June quarter 1887, aged 83. This does not square with a birth date of 1806, rather 1803 or 1804. However, death certificates are notoriously unreliable with respect to age, all depending on the informant being in possession of precise knowledge about year or birth.
