General Note
This could be his baptism: GEORGE PURSER Christening: 29 JUN 1851 Broadwater By Worthing, Sussex, England Father: GEORGE PURSER Mother: EMMA. However, George's birth is not yet on the FreeBMD site, as at September 1, 2004.

By 1871, he had left Worthing and was in St Luke in London, age 19, lodging at 95 Central Street, working in a shoe factory, probably, as his occupation was 'clicker'. One wonders if he had a disagreement with his family and left for London and fresh fields. His experience put him in a good situation in the leather trade as by 1881 he is in business, working as a leather salesman, successful enough to employ a servant. However, it is clear that this must have been how he met his future wife, Amelia Sophia Andrews, as the Andrews lived in St Lukes for quite a time.

Broadwater is inland from the beach, to the north east of Worthing centre but within the conurbation. The A24 runs south along Broadwater Street.

In the 1901 census: 4 and 5, Crescent Road, Holy Trinity, Worthing.
