Notes for Arthur Frederick ANDREWS

General Note
Births Jun 1849 Andrews Arthur Frederick W London 2 270.

His mother died and in the 1851 census he was farmed out at Poppins Court in St Brides with a widow and her family. It is hard to understand why he was not at home with his father and grandmother, unless the family he was with were his mother's people. However, he was only a couple of hundred yards from his father and Andrews grandmother.

In the 1861 census he was living with his family at 41 Rahere Street, holding down a job at the Luke foundry. By 1871 he was in prison.

In the 1871 census, his step-mother and half-siblings, his father having died.

Alice Andrews abt 1865 St Luke, Middlesex, England Daughter St Luke London

Amelia Andrews abt 1825 Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England Head St Luke London

Emma Andrews abt 1857 St Luke, Middlesex, England Daughter St Luke London

William Andrews abt 1858 St Luke, Middlesex, England Son St Luke London

Jessie Summerfield abt 1870 St Luke, Middlesex, England Nurse Child St Luke London

The only Arthur Andrews in the right age bracket, a year or so out, was an unemployed 'single' 'hawker' from St Brides in London in Portland Prison. This ties in perfectly with the 1861 census on place of birth.

He was still in prison in 1881: Arthur Andrews abt 1849 London, Middlesex, England Convict "H M Prison Borstal", Rochester St Margaret, Kent, England.

Unfindable in 1891, except perhaps as Arthur Andrew, clothes presser, wife Martha, born in Kettering, but he was out and married by 1901, working as an 'employer' chimney sweep, living with wife Sarah, age 60 at 107 Britannia Street, Hoxton, Shoreditch.

Was this his first marriage if the clothes presser in Kettering was him? Marriages Jun 1881 ANDREWS Arthur Royston 3a 467 TRIGG Martha
