Notes for Fanny Maria ANDREWS

General Note
From the IGI: Fanny Maria Andrews. Birth: 27 MAR 1840 Christening: 27 MAY 1840 St Mark's, Kennington, Surrey, England

Births Jun 1840 Andrews Fanny Maria Lambeth 4 221

She was with her parents in Lambeth as a baby in the 1841 census, but with the wife of her uncle John in the 1851 census, working for her living.

In the 1861 census for 52 St Andrews Road in Lambeth, her mother Eliza (age 46, born in Newington) is now widowed, alone with Fanny, George James (a gunmaker) age 15 and Edwin age 10. Fanny is working as a 'servant' and her mother as a laundress.

It looks as if she and her mother trained as monthly nurses. In the 1871 census Fanny is living in the household of an Insurance Broker at 18 Grove Place, Wanstead, Essex. She is 29, said to be born in Lambeth.

Perhaps this is her marriage, finally: Marriages Dec 1874 ANDREWS Fanny Maria St. Saviour 1d 115 to William Lees. She is alone with their children in 1881, sharing a household with a widow, Mary E Haddon, born in Tasmania. William is living in as horsekeeper to a widow in St George Martyr on the other side of the river. She presumably met him in Essex, where he was born.

In 1881, she is still alone with the boys at 69 Jeffrey and Robb, Vauxhall. The boys are working as clerks. She has a medical student as a lodger. There is also a niece with them -- Frances Annett, age 22, working as a domestic servant and born in Newington. Fanny is not a widow, so William must still be working away.

Cannot find her for sure in the 1901 census although there is a Fanny Lees, single, visiting a friend in Chiswick. No death has been located yet.
