Notes for Thomas C WARD

General Note
Births Mar 1851 Ward Thomas Cornelius Clerkenwell 3 142. Much too early for this child.

The existence of this child was only discovered by examining the 1851 census for his parents. There with them was Thomas C Ward, age 5, given as a son. This could be wrong - he might have been someone else's child, such as the Thomas Christmas seen at the foot of this record. However, there was a Thomas Christian Ward marriage in 1872 that gives substance to the idea that a child Thomas C was born in the right timeframe in the right place.

Impossible to find in the 1861 census. He may well have been in the Marylebone Parochial School. There is a Thomas Wood of the right age, and a Thomas Ward, younger.

In the 1871 census, a 'visitor' to 4 Park Cottages, East Ham (Manor Park East), age 24 and a 'banker's clerk', born in London. Staying with another banker's clerk and his wife.

Thomas said he was born at Bouverie Street, off Fleet Street, in the 1891 census. They were living at 32 Sydenham Park in Lewisham. He was a printer, Eleanor born at Balham, Kate E at Catford Bridge. They had a live-in servant.

His wife died in 1893. Deaths Mar 1893 Ward Eleanor 52 Lewisham 1d 787

No sign of him in the 1901 unless as follows below, but this does not stack up.

By then Kate Eleanor was married with children.

Not to be confused with Thomas Christmas Ward, a widower, running a boarding house in Brighton in 1901. Or could that be him with a new joke name? However, according to online records including the census material, Thomas Christmas Ward's parents were Thomas George Ward and Clara. He was born 1847 Kennington.

Marriages Dec 1902 Ward Thomas Christmas Brighton 2b 525

Deaths Dec 1904 WARD Thomas Christmas 57 Brighton 2b 151
